EP 3: How to Regulate Your Emotions and Achieve Emotional Balance with Energy Work

Do you often feel overwhelmed by your emotions, unable to control your reactions, or stuck in patterns of chronic anxiety and stress? If so, you may be dealing with emotional dysregulation.

In this podcast episode, I’ll delve into what emotional dysregulation is, how it affects your life, and what you can do to overcome it and take control of your emotions.

What is Emotional Dysregulation?

Emotional dysregulation occurs when you have difficulty managing your emotional response, leading to intense and inappropriate reactions to situations, people, or events. This condition often stems from traumatic experiences, especially from childhood, leaving a lasting imprint on your emotional well-being. Chronic stress and anxiety also contribute to keeping your nervous system in a heightened state of alert, exacerbating emotional dysregulation.

Signs of Emotional Dysregulation

Understanding the signs of emotional dysregulation is crucial for identifying and addressing it. Here are some common symptoms:

  • Frequent Mood Swings: Emotions change rapidly and unpredictably.

  • Intense Anger or Frustration: Feelings become overwhelming and uncontrollable.

  • Anxiety or Panic Attacks: Paralyzing fear or worry.

  • Difficulty Calming Down: Feeling emotionally exhausted after being upset.

  • Overwhelmed by Emotions: Inability to focus or function properly.

Impact of Emotional Dysregulation

Emotional dysregulation doesn't just affect your mood; it can impact all areas of your life:

  • Strained Relationships: Conflicts and misunderstandings due to unpredictable and intense emotional reactions.

  • Work or School Performance: Difficulty concentrating, meeting deadlines, or working well with others.

  • Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms: Overeating, drinking alcohol, or other behaviors to manage overwhelming emotions.

  • Physical Health Issues: Chronic stress leading to headaches, digestive problems, and a weakened immune system.

Overcoming Emotional Dysregulation with Energy Healing

While various methods can help regulate emotions, the most effective technique I've found is the Emotion Code, Body Code, and Belief Code developed by Dr. Bradley Nelson. These energy healing methods help you quickly find and release trapped emotions from unresolved traumas and challenging events, aiding in emotional regulation.

The Emotion Code

The Emotion Code helps identify and release trapped emotions around specific emotional triggers. Triggers are doorways to unresolved wounds inside you. When you become aware of your triggers, you can use the Emotion Code technique to identify and release the specific stuck emotions around them.

Learning and Practicing the Emotion Code

Finding and releasing trapped emotions with the Emotion Code is something you can learn to do on your own or with a trained practitioner. You can learn all about this method from the Emotion Code book by Dr. Brad Nelson, or check out my intro guidebook on the Emotion Code available in the free resource section of my website.

Deeper Layers: Body Code and Belief Code

If you still experience emotional triggers after releasing trapped emotions, it may be due to deeper layers connected to unresolved wounds, such as limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns. The Body Code and Belief Code techniques can help identify and release these deeper layers. While these methods require working with a certified practitioner or getting trained yourself, they can profoundly impact your emotional regulation.

Real-Life Examples

Self-Worth and Emotional Dysregulation

Sara struggled with severe emotional dysregulation for years. Her triggers included fear of criticism and feeling unsupported, stemming from a core belief of being unworthy of love and respect. By using the Body Code and Belief Code techniques to release limiting beliefs and negative thoughts around her self-worth, Sara was able to stop being triggered by similar situations and improve her emotional well-being.

Safety and Emotional Dysregulation

John experienced chronic anxiety and panic attacks due to a deep-seated belief that he was never truly safe. Growing up in a volatile household, he learned to always be on high alert. By addressing and healing the root cause of his triggers, such as feeling out of control or anxious in unpredictable situations, John shifted his belief to feeling safe in his body, leading to a significant reduction in his anxiety and panic attacks.

Achieving Lasting Emotional Freedom from Emotional Dysregulation

If you find that you're still dealing with emotional dysregulation after releasing stuck emotions, it’s essential to work on limiting beliefs or negative thought patterns at the root of your triggers. Focusing on self-worth and safety beliefs can indirectly improve your triggers, even if you don’t work on them directly. This deeper level of healing can make a significant impact on your emotional well-being and every aspect of your life. Remember, healing is possible, and you have the power to transform your life.
